授課領域The primary force of our research is dedicated to develop novel materials for liquid crystal display and photonic applications. Our current effort focuses on (1) Fast switching LC cells; (2) Polymer wall and network liquid crystals; and (3) Reflective coloration of chiral-nematic liquid crystals.

(1) Fast switching LC cells
We are interested in developing novel LC materials that are capable of switching less than 1 ms under electric field. In particular, ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) and anti-ferroelectic liquid crystals (AFLCs) materials are chosen for our current study. We also extend our efforts to establish new cell assembly techniques to overcome domain and driving related issues that are critical in FLCs andAFLCs.

(2) Polymer wall and network liquid crystals
The second line of our research is the switching speed enhancement by confining LC domain and their potential application for cell fabrication in flexible displays.

(3) Reflective coloration of chiral-nematic liquid crystals.
Chiral-nematics are known to their selective wavelength reflection and circular polarization. Our approach consists of broadband reflector, non-linear optical effect, as well as both active and passive CLC reflective displays.
